One of the key limitations of the speed of information flow is its latency due to the processing of data in a high-level network architecture. The MEC architecture provides computing and storage resources at lower levels of the network structure as close to the end user as possible. Deploying MEC on Small Cell base stations enables a significant increase in data throughput and latency reduction.<\/p>

The main benefits that MEC solutions provide are:<\/p>

  • data processing facilities and relieving the burden on data centers,<\/li>
  • reliable data processing and storage.<\/li><\/ul>

    Autonomous cars – Combining MEC with artificial intelligence-based machine learning (AI\/ML) will enable autonomous vehicles to analyze their environment in real time (roadway situation, route load, obstructions). In turn, low network latency is essential for autonomous vehicles to be safe;A delay in providing information for too long is a threat to passengers\u2019 lives and health.

    Industry 4.0 \u2013 MEC (Multi-Access Edge Computing) is an important part of the implementing the Industry 4.0 concept, the digital transformation of manufacturing. MEC can improve productivity, quality and safety in the industry, as well as provide better integration and synchronization of production processes.<\/p>

    Monitoring production processes – By using edge devices such as sensors and cameras, MEC enables real-time monitoring of production processes. Data collected from the devices can be processed locally, minimizing delays and improving response time to irregularities in production processes.<\/p>

    Support for industrial robots – MEC enables fast and secure communication between industrial robots to synchronize them and improve their performance. In addition, using MEC for real-time analysis allows for better control of robots and prevention of accidents.

    Video analysis requires processing large amounts of data, which can lead to delays and increased response times, which in turn can affect the quality of service. With MEC, data processing can be done locally on edge devices, speeding up response times and improving quality of service. MEC also enables intelligent video networks that use machine learning and artificial intelligence algorithms to analyze video in real time. This makes it possible to detect and identify various events, such as accidents, abnormal behavior, the presence of hazardous substances, as well as identify and track objects and people.<\/p>

    Augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) – MEC in AR\/VR enables information-rich digital images to be overlayed on real-world environments. Currently, 3D models are too demanding in terms of CPU and power consumption to be rendered in end devices. MEC enables 3D data to be processed outside of the end device and low latency guarantees smooth display operation.<\/p>

    MEC and AR\/VR can support remote workers during installation \/ repair work.
